Americas for Decency in Government

Frequently Asked Questions - FAQs

Q1: Is Americans for Decency in Government (ADG) a partisan or religiously affiliated organization?
A: No. ADG is strictly nonpartisan and is not affiliated with any religious organization. Our work focuses on observable conduct, not ideology. We believe that basic human decency benefits every American no matter what their party, ideology, or religious beliefs.

Q2: How does ADG evaluate public officials?

A: We utilize a Basic Human Decency Scorecard to evaluate public officials based on behavior (i.e. speech, actions, and affiliations) and how well it aligns to our core principles.  You may access our guiding principles here.

Q3: How are my donations used?
A: Contributions fund the creation and sharing of tools like the Decency Scorecard, the Patriot’s Pledge, and civic resources that help people engage their leaders. We are volunteer‑led, so donations go directly to initiatives that promote integrity and public accountability.  You can learn more about our work here.

Q4: Does ADG endorse or oppose political candidates?
A: While our primary purpose is promoting decency in government to improve social welfare, we also engage in government official and candidate evaluation and advocacy based on alignment with our definition of basic human decency and in support of our primary social welfare mission.

Q5: What is ADG's organization's legal structure?

A: We are structured as a 501(c)(4) tax-exempt nonprofit organized for social welfare purposes (e.g., promoting community welfare, civic engagement, advocacy, or common good).

Q6: Are my donations to ADG tax‑deductible?
A: No. Contributions to 501(c)(4) organizations are generally not tax-deductible as charitable donations.

Q7: Does ADG disclose the names of donors?
A: No, federal law does not require public disclosure of donors.

Q8: What if I can’t give money right now?
A: You can still make a real impact. Use our resources at your local city council meeting, tell your friends and colleagues about ADG and our mission,  reach out to your local, state, or federal public official and encourage them to take the Patriot’s Pledge.

Q9: How can I stay informed about your work?
A: You can follow our announcements and check our site for new resources, events, and impact stories that show how your support is making a difference.
